CoaXPress line scan cameras for the highest line rates

CoaXPress gives line scan cameras the highest data rate with deterministic transmission: 6.25 Gbit/s per channel at CXP-6, 12.5 Gbit/s at CXP-12, with up to four channels, power (PoCXP) and trigger over the coaxial cable and cable lengths up to 40 m. This lets 16k lines run at line rates that neither GigE nor Camera Link reach. VISIONTECHNIK offers CoaXPress line scan cameras from HIKROBOT and OPT with 8k and 16k pixels, line rates from 24 to 200 kHz, pixel sizes from 3.5 µm to 7 µm, in mono and colour versions with M72.

Where CoaXPress is the right interface

For wide, fast webs where 16k pixels at 100 kHz and more are needed: display glass, battery films, high speed print, large format panels. The cable length up to 40 m allows acquisition in the control cabinet instead of at the machine.

Camera, frame grabber and cable have to match: CXP level, channel count and connector (DIN 1.0/2.3 or HD-BNC). The frame grabber category lists CoaXPress cards with two, four and eight channels; line synchronisation runs through the card.

Frequently asked questions about CoaXPress line scan cameras

How many CXP channels does a 16k line scan camera need?
That depends on line rate and bit depth: 16k at 100 kHz and 8 bit are 1.6 GB/s, i.e. three CXP-6 channels or two CXP-12 channels. The manufacturer data per model states the intended channel count.
Do I need a frame grabber?
Yes. CoaXPress works with an acquisition card in the computer that powers the camera via PoCXP, delivers the line trigger and buffers the data.
CoaXPress or 10 GigE for line scan cameras?
CoaXPress for the highest line rates and hard trigger over the cable; 10 GigE for long cables without a frame grabber at moderate rates. At 16k above 60 kHz there is usually no way around CoaXPress.
