Area scan camera MV-CH120-90UC V5

The MV-CH120-90UC V5 from HIKROBOT is a color area scan camera with 12 MP and a USB 3.0 interface. Its Gpixel GMAX3412 CMOS sensor in 1.1" format carries a Bayer color filter in the GB pattern and works with a global shutter; at full resolution the camera delivers 30 fps in Bayer GB 8.

Technical data

Resolution is 4096 × 3072 pixels at a pixel size of 3.4 µm × 3.4 µm, the dynamic range is 66.2 dB and the signal-to-noise ratio 39.4 dB. Output is Bayer raw data or internally computed color images in YUV422, RGB 8 and BGR 8. Exposure time ranges from 6 µs to 10 s, gain from 0 dB to 6.1 dB. Data flows over USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 is also possible; power comes from the USB cable or a 5 VDC to 24 VDC supply, typically 2.4 W at 5 VDC.

Operating conditions

For operation HIKROBOT specifies -10 °C to 50 °C, for storage -30 °C to 80 °C, at 20 % to 95 % relative humidity without condensation. The C-mount housing measures 29 mm × 29 mm × 30 mm at approx. 80 g, rated IP40 with lens and cables properly installed.

Applications and selection

The camera suits color inspection, for example of color markings or prints. Since gain ends at 6.1 dB, it needs bright light for short exposure times. If color is not needed, the monochrome version MV-CH120-90UM V5 fits; for PoE and network operation, the MV-CH120-90GC V5 does, with fewer frames per second.
